Exclusive: Life On The Sideline EP announcement, music video premiere

Since releasing Honesty Is A Dying Breed two years ago, Life On The Sideline has remained active on the road and is now ready to unveil its upcoming EP, Never Settle. To kick things off, we're premiering the music video for the band's new single, "Echo", which tells the sad story of a young girl reminiscing times spent with her deceased partner. While not a pop punk song per se, it's as catchy as one with an infectious chorus that you'll inevitably get stuck in your head. The band's sound could be compared to that of Transit's and The Early November's. Fans can pre-order the EP on iTunes and CD here, before it's released on June 7th. […]

Review: Pentimento - "Wrecked" EP

Release InfoPentimento - Wrecked EP
Record Label: Panic Records
Release Date: April 21, 2011
Buy: Bandcamp

Pentimento is a Punk Rock / Indie band from Buffalo, New York. On April 21st, they self released their "Wrecked" EP. Around the time of the release the band reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in doing a review. I generally only listed to Pop Punk music but found it refreshing to change it up and listen to something else for once.

Pentimento's EP is slower and more emotional than anything I've listened to in the past year. "Wrecked" offers something that you just can't find in Pop Punk. The Buffalo band mixes Punk with Indie, adds in small amounts of Hardcore and at times reminds me of late 90's early 2000's Melodic Hardcore.

The music starts playing, you think Buffalo, New York, and you expect to hear some raspy Hot Water Music style vocals, yet Pentimento surprises with nearly all clean vocals. The one thing that sticks out most in my mind is the amount of emotion that the band pours into their 6 song EP. I'm not talking Emo as in the sappy Pop Punk songs Good Charlotte was churning out that got labeled "Emo", I mean true Emo, reminding me of the days of The Saddest Landscape and Funeral Diner.

The downfall of the "Wrecked" EP is that it just never left a lasting impression on me. That being said, I am by no means the target audience for this band. If you listen to Small Brown Bike and Hot Water Music, then Pentimento's "Wrecked" EP is right up your alley.
