Exclusive: Life On The Sideline EP announcement, music video premiere

Since releasing Honesty Is A Dying Breed two years ago, Life On The Sideline has remained active on the road and is now ready to unveil its upcoming EP, Never Settle. To kick things off, we're premiering the music video for the band's new single, "Echo", which tells the sad story of a young girl reminiscing times spent with her deceased partner. While not a pop punk song per se, it's as catchy as one with an infectious chorus that you'll inevitably get stuck in your head. The band's sound could be compared to that of Transit's and The Early November's. Fans can pre-order the EP on iTunes and CD here, before it's released on June 7th. […]

Exclusive: Decade Interview

Decade, previously known as Ready Set Low, recently released their new single, The Doctor Called (Turns Out I'm Sick As Fuck), and also have some new songs in the works, for a yet to be announced release. Making quite the name for themselves, having played multiple UK festivals, the band looks to have a very bright future ahead of them. Below are a few questions the band's guitarist, Connor, answered for us.

Firstly, can you start off by introducing yourself and your role in the band?

Connor: My name is Connor and I play guitar in Decade.

Earlier in the year the band also signed with Slam Dunk Records, can you tell us how you got involved with the label and what it's been like working with them?

Connor: No better way to say it really - it was all down to our manager. Great guy and put everything into us getting a deal with Slam Dunk and so far they've been great, nothing but constant support and advice, as well as some big plans for the future.

In the last few months, the band has released two music videos, one being for a brand new song set to be released in mid-August on Slam Dunk - what was shooting the music videos like and what is the new song all about?

Connor: The videos were the first we have ever shot, including in any of our previous bands, so it was a really fun, new experience. The latest video we released is for our new single The Doctor Called (Turns Out I'm Sick As Fuck), which is about, simply put, staying positive however hard it may be.

The band's debut EP, Lost As Sea, was released in 2009 as Ready Set Low, but is the band currently working on any new material? After the upcoming single, when could we expect your next release?

Connor: Absolutely, whenever we're not out touring we spend almost all our time writing. As far as a release date is concerned, that's a surprise!

Within the Pop Punk/Hardcore spectrum, Decade's sound sits somewhere in the middle - which bands would you cite as your main musical influences?

Connor: I think between us we listen to almost anything and everything. Collectively though, we're still nuts about the golden age of Pop Punk (late 90's early 00's blink-182, Sum 41, NFG, Dookie-era Green Day), but the modern scene is very much about the more Hardcore side of things, which we fully support and hope to make a name for ourselves therein.

This year has undoubtedly been very successful for the band, playing multiple festivals such as Slam Dunk and Sonisphere, as well as touring the UK with Set Your Goals, A Loss For Words, and This Time Next Year. What've been your favourite moments of all, to date?

Connor: The shows this year have been crazy, the transition from playing shows to empty rooms last year, to playing fully packed festivals this year has been incredible and for the we are unbelievably grateful. As far as favourite moments, for me personally it's knowing that we have the ability to play these sold out shows with these amazing bands because of nothing more than the music we play and the hard work we and our managers/label put in, we don't buy or bribe our way on to these tours and festivals like a lot of bands do these days, we play them because someone, somewhere thinks we're good enough, and that is awesome.

Do you feel that signing with a label has facilitated gaining the exposure you've accumulated this year alone, or can it mostly be attributed to your own work?

Connor: I definitely feel that our managers and label have given us the biggest push imaginable, but i think we work off of each other exceptionally well and there is no single party responsible for the progress we've made so far, it's certainly a team effort.

The band also has an upcoming tour this October with Forever The Sickest Kids - what're you looking forward to the most about this tour?

Connor: Tour! You never know what to expect when you head out on a tour, even if you've played the venues before or played with the same bands before, it's different every time and that's probably the most exciting thing about it.

Having only officially released the one EP, do you guys play any news songs or covers at shows?

Connor: We play almost all of the songs from the Lost At Sea EP as well as a couple new tracks. Playing new, unreleased songs live before you head to the studio can really influence the writing process, gives you a chance to judge how your audience will react to it and what sort of energy it will bring to your life performance, so we definitely find it beneficial.

Tell us, what've you been listening to yourself lately?

Connor: I've had the new blink-182 stuff on repeat, as well as some Break Even and Manchester Orchestra here and there.

The future looks very bright for the band, do you have anything else planned for the rest of the year?

Connor: We have our first single out on the 15th August and you can download it for free from here: http://www.slamdunkmusic.com/records. We are also touring with Forever The Sickest Kids in October, which should be another great experience!

That's all from me, would you like to add anything else?

Connor: Thanks for taking the time to ask me some questions and to anyone reading, thanks for taking the time to read my answers!
