After hearing of Placeholder's name change, I was excited to find out that I get to review their new EP/7", Thought I Would Have Been Someone By Now. The edgy four-piece, hailing from Maryland and Pennsylvania, has just released their best work yet.
On my first listen, Mary, I felt a lot of '90s Punk influence, which in my opinion is the best era for Punk. Maybe I’m just a little biased, since that is the type of music that made me the person I am today. Nevertheless, this song can stand the test of time in the genre. There is no way that I could compare them to any other band currently doing this, which is an amazing thing for a band's sound. The closest thing I can think of is Texas Is The Reason. My favorites of the EP, Calculation and Tired Of Me, were the most memorable to me. I found myself humming the Grunge-esque guitar riffs after my listen-through.
The sound as a whole mixes together very well. My favorite part of the mix is the drumming. The drums sound very clean and Punk at the same time. Perfect sound. I thoroughly enjoyed this EP, and I'm excited to see where this takes them. If you see that they are coming to your surrounding areas, make the trip and support them. I’m sure it will be worth your troubles.
