Exclusive: Life On The Sideline EP announcement, music video premiere

Since releasing Honesty Is A Dying Breed two years ago, Life On The Sideline has remained active on the road and is now ready to unveil its upcoming EP, Never Settle. To kick things off, we're premiering the music video for the band's new single, "Echo", which tells the sad story of a young girl reminiscing times spent with her deceased partner. While not a pop punk song per se, it's as catchy as one with an infectious chorus that you'll inevitably get stuck in your head. The band's sound could be compared to that of Transit's and The Early November's. Fans can pre-order the EP on iTunes and CD here, before it's released on June 7th. […]

Review: State Champs - "Overslept" EP

Release InfoState Champs - Overslept EP
Release Date: September 11th, 2012
Record Label: Pure Noise Records
Buy: Vinyl/merch

State Champs released their latest EP, Overslept on September 11th. The four-track album is another addition to the State Champs collection that presents the band as just not your ordinary Pop Punk outfit, but a group that needs a full-length release immediately.

Overslept begins with Tonsil Hockey, an instrumental track that is short of one minute in length and is like a Starbucks energy drink: small in size but filled with power. Vocalist Derek Discanio takes center stage and truly shows off his envious vocal range in the EP’s second track Critical, that also features a fast-paced instrumental section that weaves in and out of an insanely catchy and melodious chorus. The EP peaks at We Are The Brave, a less busy track with a slower tempo, although that doesn’t say much. Bouncy verses are followed by a more melodic chorus with those echoing back vocals that everyone loves (“What are you waiting for?/ You knew before that we would throw it all away”). Discanio pulls off a more aggressive and demanding vocal sound in this track quite nicely. Remedy was chosen to close Overslept, and on a good note at that. It mirrors Critical with its jaunty beats and sing-along-feeling chorus, but differs in its lower key and super fast-paced middle section that features Discanio spitting out lyrics at breakneck speeds. The EP closes with the back and forth vocal technique chanting, “I’ve got no time”, which outline Discanio’s singing of the chorus one last time.

Overslept is a must-have on any kind of playlist this Fall. State Champs consistently assures fans of their promise and talent with each coming release.
