Charles Hastings (Latin For Truth): There were a lot of great records this year from Between The Buried And Me to Black Breath to Raindance and all over the place, but I say these are the three records I jam almost every time I pick up my iPod. Click the Read More… link to view the list.
Charles Hastings, Latin For Truth vocalist/guitaristFrank Ocean - Channel Orange (Def Jam Recordings)Everything about this record makes my brain light up. From general aesthetics of the title(acknowledging a sense of grapheme-color senesthesia from the summer he first fell in love, the color he saw during that summer), to lyrical content in tunes like Bad Religion and Rich Kids, and melodic choices on every song. This has been the record to define 2012 for me. |
Propagandhi - Failed States (Epitaph Records) Any year a Propagandhi record is released is a solid year for me. The riffs are insane throughout, the production is on point(the fine line; coherency in every note without the life being fucked out of it), and as always, Propagandhi brings a poignant look at the inconsistencies between general civil liberty and our case of political debauchery and empirical policies. |
Torche - Harmonicraft (Volcom Entertainment) I will try to explain why this is one of my favorite releases of the year through sheer visceral reaction upon my first listen of this album. RIFFS. LAYERS. HEAVY. MELODY. RIFFS. LAYERS. SLUDGEY GOODNESS. FUCK YES. RIFFS. |
