Exclusive: Life On The Sideline EP announcement, music video premiere

Since releasing Honesty Is A Dying Breed two years ago, Life On The Sideline has remained active on the road and is now ready to unveil its upcoming EP, Never Settle. To kick things off, we're premiering the music video for the band's new single, "Echo", which tells the sad story of a young girl reminiscing times spent with her deceased partner. While not a pop punk song per se, it's as catchy as one with an infectious chorus that you'll inevitably get stuck in your head. The band's sound could be compared to that of Transit's and The Early November's. Fans can pre-order the EP on iTunes and CD here, before it's released on June 7th. […]

Review: What Say You - "Potentials" EP

Release InfoWhat Say You - Potentials EP
Release Date: March 22nd, 2013
Record Label: Self-released
Download: Bandcamp

What Say You's debut EP Potentials showcases a sound that would fit right in with the late-‘00s pop-punk/easycore scene. With just five tracks clocking right under 13 minutes, Potentials is appropriately named in showing a young west coast band, which is looking to break into the current scene.

Make This Right reveals a slightly heavier sound in pop-punk that is reminiscent of A Day To Remember, especially so in the chorus that screams anthemic and the machine-gun breakdown. Happily so, though, the breakdown isn’t just the boring and usual china-chugging-bass drum fare: instead, interesting riffs are sprinkled over the chugs while something other than growls or screams is sung. Impressively so, What Say You make breakdowns interesting again.

Following on the same note of Make This Right, closer Potentials is a song comprised mostly of breakdowns that are fun to listen to and will surely be a right to mosh to. Potentials seems like a great opener for a Warped Tour set that will get the crowd moving and having fun in the hot summer sun.

While there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with Potentials as a whole, the production itself of the entire EP could be less polished to give it a more raw sound that would undoubtedly fit What Say You’s heavier take on pop-punk. The production, however, won’t stop this EP from being something great that showcases What Say You’s own potential as a band.
