Exclusive: Life On The Sideline EP announcement, music video premiere

Since releasing Honesty Is A Dying Breed two years ago, Life On The Sideline has remained active on the road and is now ready to unveil its upcoming EP, Never Settle. To kick things off, we're premiering the music video for the band's new single, "Echo", which tells the sad story of a young girl reminiscing times spent with her deceased partner. While not a pop punk song per se, it's as catchy as one with an infectious chorus that you'll inevitably get stuck in your head. The band's sound could be compared to that of Transit's and The Early November's. Fans can pre-order the EP on iTunes and CD here, before it's released on June 7th. […]

Review: Get A Life - "Ten Thousand Leagues" EP

Release InfoGet A Life - Ten Thousand Leagues EP
Release Date: July 1, 2011
Buy: Bandcamp or Big Cartel

Today, July 1st, marks the release of Get A Life's new EP Ten Thousand Leagues. For those of you who don't know, Get A Life are a Pop Punk band based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I've been able to listen to it countless times over the past week and am thoroughly impressed. As soon as the opening track of the 3 song EP starts to play it is evident that this is the best produced music the band has released. Production value on their demo and previous EP "One For The Books" was, in my opinion, keeping this band from gaining more fans.

Get A Life deliver three new songs on "Ten Thousand Leagues" with the intention of mixing catching Pop Punk with raw Punk energy. What I love about Get A Life is that they are a self proclaimed "no gimmicks" Pop Punk band. Don't expect overused, out of place breakdowns on "Ten Thousand Leagues", because on this EP the band keeps things simple and fun without trying to cash in on current trends.

Get A Life start of the EP with a song title "I Don't Trust Anyone Who Looks Like An Art Major". The song starts with gang vocals that are sure to induce a fight for the mic pile-on at every show. As the song goes on, no matter who you are, you are sure to hear the lyrics and be able to relate to what the song is about, we've all been there. The second track, "Nudes (Send)" is a little slower than the first. Although it starts off slower, it doesn't mean it isn't catchy. Numerous times over the past week I had the chorus stuck in my head. The ending to the song is wonderful, sure to delight any long time Pop Punk fan. The vocal delivery near the end of the track leaves me reminiscing about Vinnie Caruana of The Movielife and I Am The Avalanche fame. Get A Life conclude the short EP with "I Hope We're Better Than This". Another relatable song, everybody can point to a friend, a relative, or someone they know and match them to the phrase "I'm not a bad guy, I'm just hard to like sometimes". I used to play Bass for several years, and I know nobody cares about bass, but the bass line carrying this song definitely hits the spot. It is one of the things I like to listen for that I feel most people don't give a shit about.

It is hard to get a good feel for a band in 8 minutes and only 3 songs, but Get A Life definitely leaving the listener craving more with their latest EP "Ten Thousand Leagues". I'm sorry to say it, but unfortunately "Ten Thousand Leagues" isn't going to propel Get A Life to the top of any charts, however it showcases the band's continued growth and ability to adapt to line up changes. The EP might not get them national attention, but it will definitely get the ball rolling.

As I mentioned earlier "Ten Thousand Leagues" was released today, and is available for purchase on the band's Big Cartel site as well as on their Bandcamp page.
